South-South sharing to highlight REDD+ Opportunities for African Countries

The Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice (MRFCJ) has today published a report entitled: Pursuing REDD+ as a viable development option: Lessons from Guyana’s experience. The report, launched at the first Climate Change and Development in Africa Conference in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, aims to enable South-South sharing of experiences on REDD+. The report examines how REDD+ has the potential to deliver economic development while preserving forest reserves.

Mary Robinson to re-visit Horn of Africa - ten million at risk in the region

A consortium of aid organisations today announced that Mary Robinson will travel this weekend to the drought stricken region of the Horn of Africa. The consortium – including Concern Worldwide, Trocaire, Oxfam Ireland – collectively reach in excess of a million people in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. They approached Mrs Robinson to help ensure that the plight of people in the region remains firmly on global agendas.

Mary Robinson establishes a new Foundation
to ensure human rights are at the heart of the climate change agenda

Mary Robinson is returning to live and work in Ireland at the end of 2010. She has established the Mary Robinson Foundation, a non-profit company limited by guarantee with charitable status under Irish law. The Foundation will focus its initial activities primarily on climate justice so the business name Mary Robinson Foundation - Climate Justice (MRFCJ) is being used. It will work to foster Irish and international leadership on issues of climate change and sustainable development and promote climate justice and equity.
